Brief Description:
Remanufacturing-X aims to accelerate Europe's transition towards digital, sustainable and circular manufacturing by developing an integrated ecosystem for industrial remanufacturing. The project addresses key challenges related to resource efficiency, fragmented product lifecycle information, labour-intensive processes and the limited adoption of circular business models. By combining Artificial Intelligence (AI), Digital Twins, Digital Product Passports (DPPs), and interoperable data spaces, Remanufacturing-X seeks to enhance industrial efficiency, extend product lifecycles and reduce material waste and environmental impacts.
The project will develop a comprehensive set of digital solutions, including a Remanufacturing Data Space for secure information exchange, AI-powered tools for quality inspection and process optimisation, circularity assessment and scoring methodologies, and a digital B2B marketplace connecting industrial stakeholders with remanufacturing services and solutions. These technologies will be demonstrated and validated across five industrial pilots covering textiles, brewing, industrial machinery, maritime equipment and batteries. Particular emphasis will also be placed on human-centric innovation, workforce upskilling and the development of inclusive approaches to digital technology adoption.
The Institute of Communication and Computer Systems (ICCS), through the Decision Support Systems Laboratory (EPU-NTUA), contributes to the development of key digital and decision-support solutions. ICCS leads the development of the Remanufacturing Circularity Scoring System (ReCiSE), which will assess and benchmark the circularity performance of remanufactured products, and the AI-Powered Service Matching Engine, which will connect industrial users with suitable remanufacturing service providers. ICCS also leads the development of guidelines and policy recommendations for inclusive technology adoption and contributes to digital process optimisation, sustainability assessment and the maritime remanufacturing pilot. Through these activities, ICCS supports the transition towards more intelligent, resource-efficient and sustainable European industrial value chains.
