Brief Description
CLIMRES aims to promote leadership in ensuring buildings remain resilient to climate change impacts. Τhe project involves identifying vulnerabilities and enhancing resilience in the face of disruptive and extreme climatic events, including heat waves, flooding, fires, earthquakes etc. In this context, CLIMRES will provide valuable insights and guidance for building owners, policymakers, stakeholders, and all relevant organisations and entitites, armouring them with highly cost-effective solutions that will be deployed considering the interlinkages in the broader building ecosystem. This will be materialised through the introduction of a comprehensive framework for assessing and monitoring climate-resilient buildings by gathering and analysing under the same conceptual umbrella relevant data, such as weather forecasts and disaster alerts. The proposed framework will examine the applicability of versatile solutions on building design and materials, which will be assembled under a dedicated repository, towards improving safety and resilience against extreme climatic events and natural disasters. This initiative will also explore the potential of asset management and life cycle approaches to optimise resilience costs in response to climate and environmental factors. The practical application of the proposed framework will be facilitated by a suite of decision support services for strategic, tactical, and operational resilience assessment to assist building stakeholders in various stages of vulnerability assessment and management. Part of the latter lies in identifying vulnerable buildings, implementing renovation technologies, monitoring and forecasting, raising user awareness, and facilitating preservation and maintenance efforts. CLIMRES adopts an interdisciplinary approach and considers diverse geographical areas, including pilot countries like Greece, Italy, Slovenia, Spain, and replication multiplier countries like France. This ensures the initiative's relevance and applicability in different contexts, addressing resilience to various climate-related hazards such as heatwaves, wildfires, floods, and earthquakes.
