Project summary:

BUSINESS2ACT is a European LIFE project supporting companies in the industrial and service sectors in their clean energy transition through harmonised tools, templates and methodologies for adopting Energy Management Systems (EnMS) and implementing energy efficiency and renewable energy measures recommended in energy audits.

Brief Project description:

Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) usually have no regulatory obligations to undergo energy audits or push towards an energy transition. However, many of them operate with substantial energy consumption, meaning they would greatly benefit from the implementation of an Energy Management System (EnMS). Bigger companies, on the other hand, often fulfil legal requirements without merging them with strategic business planning.

BUSINESS2ACT aims to support companies of industrial and service sectors in their clean energy transition by providing them with harmonised tools, templates and methodologies for the adoption of EnMS and for the uptake of energy efficiency and renewable energy measures.

The project will develop and test a methodology for identifying businesses falling into different energy-consumption thresholds under Article 11 of the new Energy Efficiency Directive (EED), together with an Action Plan template for the uptake of energy efficiency and renewable energy measures recommended in audits. The template will consider Non-Energy Benefits, links with ESG performance, the benefits of digitalisation, and the role of follow-up systems in supporting companies after the audit.

BUSINESS2ACT will also involve policy makers, standardisation bodies, auditors and other stakeholders to strengthen collaboration among Member States and support the uptake of project outputs in national and EU policy frameworks and relevant standards.

EPU-NTUA role 

EPU-NTUA will lead the development of the BUSINESS2ACT digitalisation guide and the methodology for assessing companies’ digital maturity. This work will explain how digital technologies, from smart meters and cloud infrastructure to Artificial Intelligence and Digital Twins, can support energy efficiency, renewable energy uptake and more informed investment decisions, while helping companies identify their current digital readiness and areas for improvement.

EPU-NTUA will also lead the BUSINESS2ACT online self-assessment tool, which will help companies calculate their total energy consumption, benchmark their performance against comparable businesses, assess their potential obligations under Article 11 of the new Energy Efficiency Directive, and evaluate their digital maturity. In addition, EPU-NTUA will lead the Stakeholders Analysis and Engagement Plan, supporting the identification, prioritisation and engagement of relevant stakeholders in partner countries, at EU level and beyond the consortium countries.
