The Decision Support Systems Laboratory (DSS Lab) of National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) has established strategic partnerships with two key national operators, the Independent Power Transmission Operator (IPTO) and Hellenic Gas Transmission System Operator (DESFA) to foster data interoperability, transparency, and innovation within energy sector.
DSS Lab Partners with IPTO and DESFA
These collaborations are part of the ENERSHARE project, an EU-funded initiative aimed at developing a European Energy Data Space that promotes secure, transparent, and interoperable data sharing across the energy ecosystem. While IPTO and DESFA are not formal members of the ENERSHARE consortium, this collaboration marks a significant milestone in bridging national infrastructures with European-level data-sharing initiatives.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between NTUA and IPTO enables the integration of IPTO’s datasets from the “Operation & Market Files API” into the ENERSHARE Data Space. Specifically, these datasets include critical information on energy operations, market dynamics, and grid performance, directly supporting the EU’s ambition for an open, standardized and transparent energy data space. NTUA has developed a data application to ensure that IPTO’s publicly available datasets can be seamlessly accessed, reused, and interoperated with other data sources within the ENERSHARE Data Space. This not only expands the visibility and value of IPTO’s data but also creates a new access point for accurate and usable information that can be leveraged by energy stakeholders across Europe.
Correspondingly, a MoU between NTUA and DESFA allows DESFA to contribute valuable datasets to the project. Through this collaboration, datasets available on DESFA’s website, containing valuable insights about Greece’s natural gas grid infrastructure, operations, and flow dynamics will be integrated into the ENERSHARE Data Space. This effort aligns with the EU’s vision of a unified energy data space by enabling cross-sector stakeholders to access reliable and actionable information.
These collaborations reinforce Greece’s growing role as a key player in Europe’s energy transition. By enabling broader access to trusted, high-quality energy data, the partnerships contribute to building a smarter, more connected European energy landscape, where innovative data-driven energy solutions can thrive across industries and borders.
Through these joint efforts, NTUA, IPTO, DESFA and ENERSHARE are demonstrating the power of collaboration in accelerating the energy transition through open, reliable, and reusable data. Together, they are unlocking the full potential of energy data to shape sustainable energy solutions and drive innovation across Europe.
