Karamaneas Anastasios
Electrical & Computer Engineer, MEng, PhD Candidate
Energy system modelling, energy policy
Mr. Anastasios Karamaneas is a Researcher at the Energy Policy Unit (EPU) of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). He has been a PhD candidate at the School of Electrical & Computer Engineering, NTUA, after graduating with a MEng degree. His research focuses on energy demand modelling, energy system optimisation, and energy policy support.
Anastasios is well versed in issues such as decarbonisation in national, regional, and local contexts, having participated in various scientific studies examining the barriers to sectoral decarbonisation, in the design of SECAPs (i.e., plans aiming at decarbonisation and resilience at the municipality level), and the assessment of national energy and climate plans (NECPs) and Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). In this respect, Anastasios has expertise in energy system models, such as LEAP and OSeMOSYS, while he participates in further development of well established, open-source modelling frameworks used in capacity development for energy and nexus analysis (e.g., OSeMBE and CLEWs), which he has used in examining climate policy scenarios at the national and European levels. He has also engaged in the use of multi-criteria decision aid tools as well as the assessment of progress along SDG indicators vis-a-vis climate policy.
Finally, Anastasios has over 10 scientific publications in high-impact journals and books, as well as several announcements at national and international conferences. Throughout his research journey, Anastasios has participated in several European research projects (Horizon 2020, Horizon Europe, and LIFE) in the fields of energy policy and decarbonisation at all levels, including but not limited to PARIS REINFORCE, C-Track 50, IAM COMPACT, DIAMOND and JUSTEM.
