The kick-off meeting of the #CyLH2Valley project, a new EU Horizon JU project, was successfully completed in Burgos, Spain (April 8-10, 2025), with the participation of NTUA ICCS (DSS Lab).
CyLH2Valley is funded with €19.5 million by the European Commission and Clean Hydrogen Partnership and aims to develop a large-scale Hydrogen Valley in Castile and León. The project is led by the H2CyL Association with full support from the Regional Government of Castile and León (JCyL), the Regional Energy Agency (ERE), and the Municipality of Burgos.
CyLH2Valley will develop hydrogen applications in transportation, industry, and energy, create business models across the entire hydrogen value chain (production, storage, distribution, and end-use applications), and mobilize total investments exceeding €340 million (2025–2027). It will ensure at least two years of full operation, aiming for complete integration and operation during the period 2028-2029. Emphasis will be placed on the economic sustainability and flexibility of hydrogen as an energy carrier.
The meeting was attended by the 39 project partners from 9 countries across Europe, who had the opportunity to discuss the technical aspects of the project as well as the planning of the next implementation steps. ICCS role in the project is to establish synergies and facilitate knowledge transfer between the Crete Valley and CyLH2Valley projects. This involves the exchange of best practices, technological advancements, and innovative solutions leveraging advanced innovations and practical applications. Moreover, ICCS will act as an enabler and facilitator for the potential replicator Valley in Greece, contributing to the replication of a successful new Hydrogen Valley in the Region of Central Greece.
